Klahowya picks up key OL win; Central boys beat conference-leader Capital

Klahowya improved to 3-0 in Olympic League 1A boys basketball thanks to an impressive 75-22 win over Chimacum Friday.

The Eagles (7-6 overall) had four players in double figures. Matt Hytinen and Devin Patch each had 13 points, Nick Lewis added 12 points and Drew Kraft finished with 11 points. Klahowya is at Seattle Lutheran Monday before hosting Port Townsend in another OL 1A game at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Central Kitsap tops SSC leader Capital 

The Central Kitsap Cougars picked up a big win Friday night, beating top-seed Capital 51-42.

Colby White led Central with 20 points in the South Sound Conference game that dropped Capital into a tie for first with Gig Harbor. The Cougars improved to 5-2 (9-4 overall) and will face Gig Harbor (6-4, 4-0) at 8 p.m. Wednesday in a doubleheader. The girls play at 6:30 p.m.

Girls Basketball: Klahowya’s Koebelin earns WIAA honors

Klahowya’s Ella Koebelin was named a WIAA Athlete of the Week for 1A last week. 

Koebelin led the Eagles to a 2-1 record. Against Vashon Island, the sophomore had 20 points, six assists, five rebounds, and five steals in the win. Against Crosspoint, she logged 11 points, six assists, six rebounds, and three steals in a win. Against North Mason (2A) Koebelin had 22 points, six assists, four rebounds, and five steals in an overtime loss.

Also: South Kitsap lost to Emerald Ridge 58-34 as the Wolves struggled with 29 turnovers Friday night. South, which hadn’t practiced due to snow closures, fell to 3-7 in South Puget Sound League and will face Bellarmine Prep (10-3, 8-2) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home.
