Klahowya’s Alyssa Becker lead a trio of Eagles at the cross country championships Saturday

Klahowya’s Alyssa Becker, Kelton Gagnon and Olivia Wildes represented Kitsap at the USATF Junior Olympics Cross Country Championships Saturday in Madison, Wisconsin.

Becker finished third in the 15-16 girls division in a time of 18 minutes, 59.2 seconds as she earned All-American status.

Olivia Wildes was 31st in the same division in 21:31.5. Kelton Gagnon finished 26th in 16:52.7.

Bremerton wins titles at White River Classic

The Bremerton boys wresting team traveled to Buckley Saturday for the 30th White River Classic and battled some of the top 2A teams in the state. 

The Knights competed in 43 matches, earned 23 wins — 18 by pin — and came away with nine medals and two championships.

Freshman Thor Michaelson won his match at 145 pounds and Michael Murray won his JV match (152).

Girls Basketball

South Kitsap downed by Emerald Ridge

Turnovers were a factor for South Kitsap as the Wolves were unable to overcome 24 of them in a 59-56 loss to Emerald Ridge Friday night. After committing 15 turnovers in the first half, the Wolves settled down but trailed 20-2 in the first quarter. 

South played better the rest of the game, down 37-28 at half, and got within three points in the waning minutes.

Oly tops Bremerton

The Olympic Trojans defeated the Bremerton Knights 65-42 in an Olympic League matchup at Les Eathorne Gym at Bremerton High School.

Olympic, which lost to North Mason 54-52 Wednesday, held a 19-12 lead in the first quarter and outscored the Knights 22-4 in the second quarter to put a lock onto the lead heading into halftime.

Brooke-Lynn Tarbox led Bremerton with 13 points and Haylee Howell chipped in 10 points.

Also: North Kitsap defeated Cascade Christian 48-43 in a non-league game as the Vikings were coming off an OL win over Bremerton, 77-24 on Wednesday. … Klahowya defeated Chimacum 62-14 in an OL 1A contest … Sequim beat North Mason 81-40 … Port Angeles handed Kingston a  71-37 loss … Central Kitsap lost to Gig Harbor 45-23 in an SSC 3A contest Friday.

Knights earn comeback win over Olympic

Bremerton rallied for an exciting 54-46 win over the Olympic Trojans Friday in an Olympic League contest at Olympic. 

The Knights out-scored Oly 20-4 in the decisive fourth quarter as Joseph Wilson hit a 3-pointer with two minutes to go to give Bremerton a 48-46 lead. Oly held a 44-37 lead at the 3:21 mark.

Tyler Lindal finished with 18 points, Caleb Erickson had 10 points for Oly. Bremerton was paced by the 11 points from Kanye Taylor while Joseph Wilson and Kimo Retome each had 10 points. 

Also: North Kitsap continued its dominance with a 67-56 win over Stanwood in a non-league game. Jonas La Tour finished with 22 points while Logan Chmielewski had 16 points and Kobe McMillian finished with 14 points for NK. … Klahowya beat Chimacum 44-22 in an OL1A game … Gig Harbor handed Central Kitsap a 66-61 defeat in 3A SSC play Friday … South Kitsap came away with a hard-fought 58-55 win over Bellarmine Friday in an SPSL 4A matchup, it’s third contest in as many days. SK lost to Stanwood 67-38 Thursday after losing to Emerald Ridge 69-55 on Wednesday.
