For the second time in three years, two Kitsap area boys swimming teams will enter the new season as the defending state champions.

Bainbridge has won the last three 3A titles and is going for an unprecedented fourth. The Spartans look strong as they have depth (47 rostered) as well as several returning state champions in Jude Wenker (100 freestyle), Kiernann Liberman (diving), Oskar Bannister (relay), state medalists Ian Lipton (IM), Andrew Witty (backstroke), Ben Chapman (distance free) and Max Eyrich (breaststroke) and state qualifier Henry Sauermann (diving). Add in more talented freshmen and Bainbridge has a good shot at a four-peat.

… Olympic won its first state title last season with six swimmers — the question is can they do it again? The Trojans graduated seniors Haakon Meyer and Ross Burchell — who were big contributors to the team’s success. They do return state champ Dietrich Meyer (freestyle) and Rainer Meyer and Ryan Burchell. Oly is still the favorite to claim the OL title but will need its newcomers to round into top-level swimmers to compete for a state repeat.

Metro League 3A

Bainbridge Spartans

Head coach: Kaycee Taylor

Three Keys to the Season

1, Depth — we have some standout athletes coming back to eye for top spots but need those next two or three guys to also deliver each meet

2, We have the largest team I have ever coached at Bainbridge with 47 on the roster and we want to keep that unique closeness we historically have, which has lead us to so much success

3, Having a championship/winning mindset which is not the same as just expecting to win. We need to work hard, focus on each set, workout and race while believing we are capable of being champions/winners without presuming anything is given to us
