Alyssa Peters two goals helped the Eagles to championship win; NK girls soccer headed to 2A state; Crosspoint volleyball survives
The Klahowya girls soccer team won the 1A West Central District championship Thursday with a 3-1 win over Cascade Christian at Orting High School. Alyssa Peters scored twice for the Eagles and Katelynn Daykin had one. Klahowya will head to the state tournament as the No. 1 seed which means they will host a first-round state tournament game next week. The date and time is yet to be determined. This is the 15th tournament appearance for Klahowya, which won a state title in 1999-2000 and 2014-15. The Eagles finished third last season and was fourth in 2000-01.
- Having already secured a berth to the 3A state tournament, the Central Kitsap girls soccer team was on the hunt for a district title Thursday. The Cougars came up short, losing to Bonney Lake 2-0 in a 3A West Central/Southwest District soccer game. The Cougars will play Lakes for the third-fourth seed at noon Saturday at Mount Tahoma into the state tournament.
- North Kitsap girls soccer beat Steilacoom 3-0 at Franklin Pierce HS in Tacoma to secure a berth to the 2A state tournament Thursday. North Kitsap led 1-0 in the first half and didn’t let the Sentinals into the match, getting a shut out as moving into the fifth-sixth seeding match at 5 p.m. Saturday against Orting at Franklin Pierce.
- Crosspoint’s boys soccer team lost to Auburn Adventist, 2-1, in the semifinals of the Tri-District 2B tournament at Auburn. The Warriors will play for the third-fourth seed against Orcas Island at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Sammamish High School.
- Crosspoint’s volleyball team remained alive at the 2B Tri-District tournament by going 1-1 Thursday in LaConner. The Warriors committed too many errors, including serve receive and serve, losing to Darrington in its opener, 30-28, 25-15, 19-25, 25-16. Crosspoint then faced Auburn Adventist in a loser-out match and pulled out a gritty 3-2 win in the elimination match. Game scores were 19-25, 25-14, 25-13, 19-25, 20-18. Crosspoint will take on Darrington, which lost to LaConner in the district title game, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in LaConner. The winner is the second seed to state while the loser is done for the season.
