The Warriors secure a berth to the 2B state tournament with shoot out victory over Friday Harbor

The Crosspoint Warriors boys soccer team beat Friday Harbor Tuesday in a 5-4 penalty shootout win at the Tri-District tournament in Friday Harbor, San Juan Island.

The score remained 1-1 after regulation as Levi Abrams scored for Crosspoint off a feed from Landon Coulder. Friday Harbor and the Warriors then went to overtime, and double overtime but the score remained tied.

In the shoot out, all five of the Warriors shooters netted goals; Tanner Stubblefield, high center of the net, Landon Couder, low right corner, Abrams, right bar ricocheted to left side, Thunderr Doty, lower right corner, and Bryce Baird, lower left corner. Doty made a crucial save to help give the Warriors the win.

The Warriors (13-4) will play Thursday against Sea-Tac League champion Auburn Adventist (13-2) in time to be determined in the district semifinals. 

  • Central Kitsap’s girls soccer team will head back to the 3A state tournament thanks to a 1-0 victory over Kelso Tuesday night at CK in the West Central/Southwest District tournament. Paris Agana scored on a hard shot past Kelso’s keeper off an assist from Marielle Arnold in the eighth minute. Central will play Bonney Lake Thursday at Mount Tahoma HS at 7 p.m. in the district semifinals. 
  • The Klahowya Eagles scored a 3-1 win over Vashon Island Tuesday in the 1A girls soccer district tournament and will face Cascade Christian in the district title game at Orting High School at 5:30 p.m.
  • In the 2A district tourney, North Kitsap lost to Fife 2-1 in the quarterfinals. The Vikings will play a loser-out match against Steilacoom Thursday at Franklin Pierce Stadium at 5 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL: Spartans secure district berth

At the 3A Metro League volleyball tournament, the Bainbridge Spartans earned its biggest win of the season with a 3-1 match score over Garfield Tuesday to qualify for the Sea-King District tournament.

Game scores were 25-22, 25-20, 24-26, 25-22.

“We had awesome defense and were very steady in our offensive production,” said Bainbridge coach Dominique Atherley. “The whole team had fantastic energy through the whole match.”

Senior outside hitter Julia Jakubik finished with 13 kills, sophomore middle blocker Allie Wildsmith added 12 kills and Mariko Ronan, a senior OH, finished with seven kills.

The Spartans (4-12) will play Seattle Prep (13-3) Thursday at 7 p.m. at McHugh Gymnasium at Seattle Prep.

Central Kitap (8-5) picked up a 3-0 win at Shelton (1-13) in a South Sound Conference match Tuesday to lock up at least the No. 4 seed to the West Central/Southwest District tournament. The Cougars finish the regular season Thursday when they host Capital (13-0) at 7:15 p.m. If CK stays in fourth, it will play Nov. 15 against the winner of the SSC No. 2 vs. PCL No. 2 at Capital High School at 5:30 p.m.
