Central Kitsap opened the South Sound Conference with an electrifying 5-set win over Gig Harbor Tuesday in Gig Harbor. 

Set scores were 25-19, 25-19, 14-25, 26-28, 15-12.

CK coach Rebecca Arthur said the Cougars (1-1) struggled against the Tides (1-1) explosive junior outside hitter but the Cougars never gave up. Central’s hitting and passing weren’t up to par, but its “hitting efficiency must have saved us,” Arthur said.

Setter Keahi Sarono finished with 22 assists and Maggie Cole had eight aces on a strong serving night for the senior while outside hitter Riley Knapp added 14 kills. Middle blocker Camryn Lingenbrink had five kills and four blocks, OH Baylee Anderson added six kills and middle Reegan Stark had four blocks for the Cougars. 

Also: Klahowya volleyball beat Port Townsend in OL1A action, 25-2, 25-7, 25-11. … In non-league, North Kitsap beat South Kitsap 25-7, 25-14, 25-15. 

Girls Soccer: Klahowya ties 4A South Kitsap

The 1A Klahowya Eagles earned a 1-1 tie with the 4A South Kitsap Wolves in a non-league girls soccer match Tuesday.

Franqie Moppins scored for the Wolves and Alyssa Peters tied the match for the Eagles.

Girls Swimming: Bainbridge gains
state times at Spartan Relays

The Bainbridge Spartans hosted the Spartan Relays last weekend and came away with state times in the process.

Bainbridge’s 200-yard medley relay of Margaret Hayes, Amelia Kimball, Siena Levan and Sydney Sorenson went 1:54.69.

The relays also gives swimmers a chance to test themselves in non-WIAA events like the 800 relay. North Kitsap finished second to Holy Names, 8:56.98 to 8:59.77. The Vikings were also second in the 200 butterfly relay to Holy Names, 1:55.23 to 1:55.54.

Bainbridge won the 200 breaststroke relay in 2:12.33, with Kimball, Annalisia Tuinukaufe, Kylie Jones, and Emma Solseng finishing in 2:12.33. Bainbridge’s 1-meter diving relay team of Lucia Opalka, Bryn Tiernan and Zeta Birttman won with 129.60 points.

The Spartans 200 freestyle relay of Xaviera Rodriguez, Solseng, Sorenson and Hayes produced a state time of 1:39.43 to win with NK finishing second in 1:44.93. The Spartans also won the 400 IM relay in 4:27.37 as Kimball, Zeta Korytko, Naomi Howard and Tuinukaufe leading the way.

Bainbridge’s 400 medley relay of Hayes, Solseng, Levan and Rodriguez earned a state time of 4:05.88 to win. Bainbridge added another win, this time in the 200 backstroke relay in 1:59.76 with Howard, Sorenson, Jacqueline Hall and Hayes. The Spartans also picked up the win in the 400 free relay in 4:00.19 (Moorea Eldon-Everts, Korytko, Grace Pratt and Eden Michael) and claim the overall title with 63 points.

Holy Names finished second, 45, while North Kitsap was third, 31, and Port Angeles fourth, 26. North Thurston and Sehome tied for fifth 19.
