The 2019 campaign begins Friday night with a full slate of games

A true home-field advantage will be in play for a few of Kitsap’s high school football teams as Central Kitsap, Klahowya and Olympic will no longer be sharing the district’s stadium in Silverdale.

Central Kitsap opens the 2019 season against intra-district rival Olympic High on Friday at its brand new field, the Kitsap Credit Union Athletic Complex, on its new campus in Silverdale, at 7 p.m.

Klahowya will stay home for the first time in school history when it hosts 2A Kingston at 6:30 p.m. in an Olympic League crossover. Klahowya’s pre-game includes a food truck by Smokin Robinsons, and the PTA/Boosters and cheer squad will be hosting a Spirit tent. CK, Klahowya and Olympic schools benefited from a CK district-wide bond that included new athletic fields. Olympic will continue to play its home games at the newly-named Integrity Roofing Stadium.

Klahowya is the lone school in the Olympic League with a coaching change as former assistant Jeff Witte takes over as head coach.

South Kitsap also had a coaching change as former Klahowya coach Dan Ericson looks to snap the Wolves’ 20-game losing skid and lead the team to a successful season in the 4A South Puget Sound League.

Olympic League 2A

North Mason Bulldogs

Head coach: Frank Hepler

Three Keys to the Season

1, Consistency throughout the year. We were up and down last year (started 3-0 then lost three in a row). We need to be consistent each week.

2, Younger guys taking a bigger role this year. Lost five seniors on both sides and are replacing most of them with sophomores or juniors. The young guys need to grow up quickly to catch up to our league teams.

3, Game planning. Our league has not made a head coaching change this season so we should have a good idea of what we will see. We have to use last seasons experiences against our league to develop great plans this season.

Returners: Reese Smelcer (jr., RB/LB, All-League), Caden North (jr., RB/LB), Gary Thomas (sr., K), Glenn Phillips (sr., OL/DL), Jared Dyer, sr., OL/DL).
