Kevin Houseman of Bainbridge finished eighth in the 50-meter breaststroke at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships Sunday in Budapest, Hungary.
Houseman qualified for the finals with a time of 28.32 as the seventh seed. He was third in his preliminary heat in 28.09 earlier Saturday. In Sunday’s finals, Houseman was seeded next to fellow American Josh Matheny. Houseman couldn’t top his faster prelim time and finished in 28.28. Matheny was fourth. Russia’s Vladislav Gerasimenko won the gold in 27.58, followed by Canada’s Gabe Mastromatteo, 27.73, and Great Britain’s Archie Goodburn 27.96.
Houseman earned his first international medal on Wednesday when he claimed the bronze medal in the 100 breaststroke.
