Eleanor Beers claims long-course win and is second in 50 freestyle
Bainbridge Island Swim Club’s Eleanor Beers won the 100-meter butterfly Friday at the PNS Senior Long Course Championships at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
Beers touched the wall in 1 minute, 1.53 seconds, lowering her prelim time by .22 seconds. She held off a fast final that saw WEST’s Ava Collinge finish second in 1:01.62 and Bellevue’s Gracie Felner third in 1:01.95 as the three raced to the wall.
Her time was a significant improvement from last week. Beers competed in the Speedo Sectionals in Mount Hood, Oregon, clocking a 1:03.28 to place eighth.
It’s the first PNS long-course championship for Beers, who will be a senior at North Kitsap in the fall.
Beers also finished second in the 50 freestyle, just .15 seconds behind winner Janelle Rudolph 26.27 to Rudolph’s 26.12.
BISC’s Hannah Tonsmann was ninth in the 50 free, dropping .37 seconds off her time to win the B final in 27.02. Bainbridge’s men’s 200 medley relay placed sixth in 1:49.49. The women’s 200 medley relay finished 15th in 2:07.22.
Kevin Houseman, who won the 100 breaststroke on Thursday, didn’t make the A final and raced in the B final, placing 11th overall with a time of 2:25.69.
Jude Wenker of BISC finished fourth in the men’s 50 free in a time of 24.42. Teammate Tyler Stewart finished 15th in the 200 individual medley in 2:14.80. BISC’s James Sanchez finished 21st in the 100 butterfly in 59.37.
Nathan Ramey, Poulsbo Piranhas, placed eighth in the men’s 400 freestyle in 4:16.48. He was also eighth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:25.69. Port Orchard’s Andrew Remminger finished 20th in the 200 IM in 2:15.20.
The meet ends Saturday.
