The North Kitsap girls basketball team earned the No. 3 seed from district thanks to a 46-45 win over Renton on Saturday at Wilson High School.
The Vikings played Friday in the 2A West Central District semifinals against No. White River. North pushed the Hornets from the start taking a 11-5 lead after the first quarter before WR led 24-23 at halftime.
White River continued to hold a small lead after three quarters, 34-27, before the Vikings chipped away at the lead. Freshman guard Ayanna Selembo hit a three-quarter shot to send the game into overtime 43-43.
North wasn’t able to keep the momentum as the Hornets pulled ahead for good, 53-46.
Kingston saw its season come to an end on Friday with a 67-37 loss to Sequim in a winner-to-regional game at Wilson.
In the 3A SeaKing tournament, Bainbridge lost to Seattle Prep on Friday 57-25 to fall into the consolation bracket. The Spartans were beaten by Roosevelt 57-43 on Saturday.
North Kitsap’s boys won their third district title in four years with a 61-51 over Franklin Pierce. The Vikings had already clinched a regional berth with a 57-49 win over Renton on Friday.
Olympic survived two loser-out games to secure a berth to regionals as well. The Trojans beat Lindbergh 53-42 on Friday and then survived a tough battle against Port Angeles, their third meeting this season, 51-48 over the Roughriders.
In the 1A WCD boys tournament, the Klahowya Eagles had their record-setting season come to an end on Friday.
The Eagles lost to Bellevue Christian 55-28 at Bellarmine Prep on Thursday, putting them into a loser-out game against Vashon. Klahowya lost to Vashon on Friday, 54-30.
Klahowya finished its season 15-7 overall and were 6-0 in the Olympic League, winning its first league title.
In 2B Tri-District boys, Crosspoint lost to Darrington 55-52 on Thursday to end its season shy of the regionals.
State Wrestling: Two locals finish second at Mat Classic
North Kitsap’s Holly Beaudoin and Bremerton’s Haley Michaelson were the top placers for Kitsap schools on Saturday at Mat Classic XXXI at the Tacoma Dome.
Payton Stroud of White River defeated Beaudoin in a close match, 4-2 in the final at 120. It was Beaudoin’s third-straight runner-up finish. North’s Elise Scrafford finished fourth at 135.
At 140, Michaelson lost a 12-1 major decision to Krista Warren of Union.
In the boys division, Anjelo Pangelinan of Olympic finished sixth at 106, North’s Robert Gomez finished fifth at 132, Noah Hammou of North placed fourth at 195.
Kelton Gagnon of Klahowya finished in fourth at 106 in the 1A division while teammate Hayden Steele finished fourth at 132. Hunter Wallis of Klahowya finished seventh at 170.
In 4A, South Kitsap’s Xavier Eaglin placed fifth at 126, Deyondre Davis finished seventh at 160 and Ethan Fragoso placed fifth at 220.
