Mat Classic XXXI will go on despite the snow.

The state wrestling championships are scheduled to begin Friday at the Tacoma Dome with a much larger bracket. Due to the cancelation of the regional tournaments the championships were expanded to a 32-man bracket. 

Friday’s first session is from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes two rounds of championship matches and three rounds of consolation matches for 3A, 2A and 1B/2B. The second session is from 2-8 p.m. for 4A, 1A and girls. 

Saturday’s third session is all classifications and runs from 9:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The fourth session is the opening ceremonies and parade of athletes which begins at 4:40 with the championship finals for all classifications at 5 p.m.

Basketball: District tournaments to resume on Wednesday

The snow has postponed area district boys and girls basketball games to at least Wednesday.

2A girls West Central District: North Kitsap’s game versus Fife is now Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Fife. Kingston plays at Wilson High School on Thursday at 6 p.m. vs TBD opponent. The district tournament will be allowed to finish by Feb. 16.

The 2A boys tournament picks up again on Wednesday. Olympic is at Franklin Pierce at 7 p.m. while North Kitsap is at Steilacoom. 

  • 1A WCD boys: Klahowya plays Bellevue Christian at Bellarmine Prep on Thursday at 6 p.m.
  • 2B Tri-District: Crosspoint hosts Darrington on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
  • 3A SeaKing District: Bainbridge girls play Ballard on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Sammamish HS.
