Even with nearly two feet of snow covering the ground, the WIAA boys state swimming and diving championships are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
The 1A/2A prelims are at 9:45 a.m. Friday, the 3A meet at 2 p.m. and the 4A at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday’s finals begin with the 1A/2A at 9:15 a.m., the 3A at 2:10 p.m. and 4A at 7 p.m.
Psych sheets for 1A/2A, 3A and 4A were released on Monday and Kingston is seeded No. 1 in the 200-yard medley relay in the 2A meet and Olympic is fifth and North Kitsap seventh. Klahowya is seeded 10th.
Tim Gallagher is the top seed in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.50, followed closely by Josh Joireman of Pullman in 1:44.99. Nathan Ramey of NK is seeded fourth and Ross Burchell of Olympic is seventh. Gallagher is also the top seed in the 100 backstroke in 50.97 with Rainer Meyer of Olympic is seeded fifth.
Ethan Fox of Kingston is seeded first in the 200 individual medley in 1:57.38. Rocco Velie, a freshman of Kingston, is seeded third and Olympic’s Haakon Meyer is fifth. Aron Markow of Kingston is seeded first in the 50 free in 22.36 with Brandon Anderson of NK second, 22.47, and Dietrich Meyer of Olympic is third in 22.54. Rainer Meyer of Olympic is seeded fifth and Klahowya’s Mason Heaman is seeded sixth. Markow is also the first seed in the 100 breaststroke in 59.32 followed by teammate Fox in 1:00.06 and NK’s Ramey in 1:00.78.
Dietrich Meyer is also the top seed in the 100 freestyle in 48.15 followed by Pullman’s Felix Gomez in 48.77 and Haakon Meyer, Dietrich’s brother, is the third seed in 48.83. Anderson of NK is seeded fourth in 49.87. In the 100 butterfly, Connor Swaney is seeded fifth in 54.65 and Oly’s Burchell is the eighth seed.
Ryan Burchell of Olympic is the No. 2 seed in the 500 freestyle, right behind Joireman of Pullman in 4:51.49 to Burchell’s 4:52.50. Velie of Kingston is seeded third in 4:53.16.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Kingston is seeded second, Olympic is the third seed and NK ninth. Klahowya earned a wild card and is seeded 19th. The 400 free relay has Kingston also seeded second followed by Oly in third and NK in eighth.
In the 3A meet, Bainbridge’s Garrett Waite is the No. 1 seed in the 200 IM in 1:53.58. Teammate Andrew Witty is the third seed and Tyler Stewart is the sixth seed.
Jude Wenker is the first seed in the 100 freestyle in 46.08 and is seeded fourth in the 200 freestyle while Central Kitsap’s RJ Thomasberg is the seventh seed in the 200. Makai Ingalls of Bainbridge is seeded fifth in the 50 freestyle, Kiernan Liberman (the defending state champion) is the No. 1 seed in diving with teammate Brian Taylor seeded third. Ingalls is also seeded fifth in the 100 butterfly while Central’s James Sanchez is seeded seventh.
Bainbridge’s Kevin Houseman is the top seed in the 100 breaststroke in 54.35 with teammate Aidan Wagner second in 58.80. Carter Hall of Bainbridge is the fifth seed. Sam Chapman is the second seed in the 500 freestyle. CK’s Sanchez is seeded seventh in the 100 backstroke.
The Spartans are seeded first in the 400 freestyle relay and second in the 200 freestyle relay.
