After just two days of competition at the USATF Hershey National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships, Kitsap County has already produced two high school All-Americans.
Kitsap Fliers Track Club’s Alexandra Payne finished third in the hammer throw to claim All-American status on Tuesday. Payne, who will be a sophomore at North Kitsap this fall, had a throw of 135 feet, 3 inches and led after the first round. Payne became the Fliers’ first All-American, reported Ron Atkins a coach with the Fliers. Payne also qualified in the shot put and finished 24th on Wednesday.
Thriller Track and Field’s Logan Roberts, Jr., earned a bronze medal in the 3K race/walk in a time of 14 minutes, 51.59 seconds to become an All-American. Roberts is a South Kitsap product.
More than two dozen West Sound athletes qualified from three area clubs, the Fliers, Thriller and the Bremerton Jaguars.
The meet continues through Sunday in Greensboro, N.C.
