This week West Sound SportsPlus gets to know Monday Video Profiles (MVPs) Bremerton golfer Alyssa Ronquillo and Ryan Hecker, North Kitsap baseball.

Ronquillo, a senior, qualified for the Class 2A state girls golf championship last week and is looking forward to making the return trip after qualifying as a junior where she narrowly made the cut. Ronquillo began playing golf as a child but didn’t become serious about the game until her freshman season. Ronquillo also played volleyball but enjoys the individual aspect of golf. She’s gunning for a top 20 finish at state in Richland later this month.

Ronquillo plans on playing golf next season at Olympic College.

Hecker, a multi-sport athlete for the Vikings, recently signed to play baseball at the University of San Francisco next season. But up first, Hecker and his teammates will head back to the regional portion of the 2A state tournament after successfully winning their first two games at the West Central District tournament last weekend at the Kitsap Fairgrounds.

Hecker, who play tennis and basketball, has been the Vikings pitching ace despite missing the early part of the season to an ankle injury. He also missed the fall tennis season due to a broken collarbone but took the injuries in stride. The Vikings will play in the district semifinal at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, against Port Angeles at the Fairgrounds.
