The lure of professional basketball in Australia has lured Ashli Payne of Bremerton back to the court.

Payne signed to play for the Willetton Tigers in Perth. The Tigers play in the State Basketball League (SBL). They have won eight championships, the last coming in 2016.

The league season begins next week.

“Even though it’ll be tough playing year round, I’m still really excited and grateful for the opportunity,” Payne said. “This is a good club and it allows me to keep showcasing myself early on in my career. The more basketball I get to play the better.”

Payne recently finished her first full pro season for Gdessa-Barreiro in the Portuguese Women’s League where she averaged 15 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game as a starter.
