Bremerton native Nathan Adrian won the 100-meter freestyle at the TYR Pro Swim Series event at Mesa, Arizona Friday.

Adrian won in 48.84 seconds, a time that signaled to Adrian that his work so far is paying off.

“I can’t complain about coming under 49 [seconds],” Adrian said in a post-race interview. “We came off of Atlanta and went to Colorado Springs and hit it really hard up there. That training has made its way to this point in the season.”

Adrian held off the field by a wide margin as Michael Chadwick finished .33 seconds behind in 49.17. Bruno Blaskovic was third in 50.01.

Adrian is scheduled to compete in Saturday’s 50 freestyle.

Prelims begin at 9 a.m. local time. Live streaming of the morning session is available at usaswimming.org. Finals begin at 4:40 p.m.
