Central Kitsap softball opened the South Sound Conference 3A with a 9-4 loss to Shelton at Linder Field in Silverdale Wednesday.

Central Kitsap senior Zee Young hit a two-run home run in the first inning and nearly had a second in the third but settled or a sacrifice fly to drive in a run. Melina Polzin was 2-for-3 with a walk and Sydney Wallis had an RBI and a walk and was 1-for-3 with the Cougars.

In non-league play, South Kitsap beat Olympic 5-3. Molly Gates of Olympic went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Dani Snyder was 1-for-3 while driving in a run.

South Kitsap’s Statia Cermak was 3-for-4 with a run, two doubles, a home run and two RBIs. Kaitlyn Johnston was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Also, Klahowya shut out Vashon 11-0 while North Mason beat Centralia 13-6.
