Michael Andrew pushed Nathan Adrian in their 50-meter freestyle final at the TYR Pro Swim Series in January.

The 18-year-old got the veteran in their second matchup Friday in Atlanta.

Andrew out-touched Adrian at the wall at the University of Georgia pool in 21.93 seconds to Adrian’s 22.00 in the finals session. The win for Andrew was significant for him in his development as Adrian’s win over world-record holder Cesar Cielo of Brazil at the Pan Pacific Championships in 2010.

“It’s huge,” Andrew said in a post-race online interview. “I feel really blessed to race with Nathan in this series.”

The two were neck-and-neck until the final 15 meters, that’s when Andrew pulled slightly ahead before Adrian started to gain ground but ran out of pool.
