No matter the outcome, the North Kitsap girls and boys basketball teams will remember playing at the state tournament for the rest of their lives.

The teams left Tuesday morning from the high school to a rousing rally and send-off by classmates, teachers, administrators, family and friends.

The Viking girls play at 9 a.m. Wednesday against Burlington-Edison at the Yakima SunDome.

It’s the first visit to the state tournament since the 1987-88 season.

The boys are on the opposite end, playing in a 9 p.m. game Wednesday against W.F. West of Chehalis.

North Kitsap girls coach Penny Gienger said they wanted to head over to Yakima early so the team could get checked into the hotel, have an afternoon practice and dinner before its early loser-out game.
