There’s a new Nathan on top of the Bremerton Knights’ record book and it’s not the five-time Olympic champion Nathan Adrian.

Nathan Rubie broke Adrian’s school record in the 100-yard butterfly during Friday’s preliminaries of the Class 2A state boys swimming and diving meet at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Rubie’s time of 50.91 surpassed Adrian’s 12-year record of 51.34. Rubie is seeded second in the event behind Emmett Moore of Anacortes in 50.37. North Kitsap’s Brandon Anderson is the fourth seed, and Kingston’s Quincy Walker is seeded sixth.

Kingston’s Tim Gallagher pulled down two top times, the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke, as the Buccaneers attempt to defend their state title on Saturday. The finals session begins at 7:10 p.m.

In the medley, Gallagher out-touched Olympic’s Ross Burchell by a narrow margin, 1:55.11 to 1:55.71. Kingston’s Ethan Fox is seeded fourth and Rubie sixth.

Gallagher held off Holden Ellsworth of Pullman in the backstroke, touching the wall first in 51.02 to Ellsworth’s 51.13. Olympic’s Haakon Meyer is seeded sixth and Rainier Meyer eighth.

Nathan Ramey of North Kitsap is the second seed behind Josh Bottelberghe, the current meet record holder. Ryan Burchell of Olympic is seeded sixth.

Olympic’s Dietrich Meyer and Tyler Goodspeed raced hard to the wall in the 50 freestyle with Goodspeed of Highline touching first in 21.65 to 21.68. Klahowya’s Mason Heaman is seeded fourth, Brandon Anderson of North Kitsap is sixth, and Aron Markow of Kingston is the eighth seed.

It wasn’t even Meyer’s closest finish of the day.

The freshman finished one-hundredth of a second behind the top seed in the 100 freestyle, Rob Mead of Columbia River in 47.22. Meyer touched the wall in 47.23. Olympic’s Haakon Meyer is seeded sixth and Kingston’s Fox is seventh.

Ross Burchell was the top qualifier in the 500 freestyle in 4:37.53, again in a close race with Olympic League opponent Ramey of NK. Ramey touched in 4:37.60. Oly’s Ryan Burchell is seeded fourth.

Markow of Kingston is the second seed behind Columbia River’s Bottelberghe, who set a meet record in 54.49 an Automatic All-American time. Markow touched in 58.63. North Kitsap’s Alex Stefanski is the seventh seed. Klahowya’s Connor Swaney is seeded ninth.

Kingston’s 200 medley relay of Gallagher, Markow, Walker and Fox set a meet record in 1:35.58, for the top seed ahead of Anacortes’ 1:36.67. The Buccaneers also is in first in the 400 free relay. The team of Fox, Bryce Hoffer, Walker and Gallagher finished in 3:16.35. Olympic is seeded third and North Kitsap sixth.

Olympic is the second seeding the 200 freestyle relay behind Columbia River, 1:28.23 to 1:28.58. CR’s time set a meet record.
