In one of the largest meets of the boys swimming season, the Bainbridge Spartans placed fourth at the Kentridge Invitational last weekend.
Bainbridge finished with 417 points in the team standings. Mercer Island won the invite with 698 points, followed by Issaquah at 444 and Kamiak at 424.
Spartan sophomore Andrew Witty picked up a win in the 200-yard individual medley in a state-qualifying time of 1 minute, 56.22 seconds. Teammate Kevin Houseman won the 100 breaststroke in a state time of 56.40 seconds, also a meet record.
Bainbridge’s Makai Ingalls finished second in the 50 freestyle to Glacier Peak’s Matthew King. King finished in 20.58 seconds to Ingall’s 21.90. Jude Wenker was third in 22.09. All were state times. Wenker was also third in the 100 backstroke in 53.15 to qualify for state.
Bainbridge diver Kiernan Lieberman placed sixth in the 1-meter event. In the 500 freestyle, Sam Chapman was fifth and Ingalls ninth.
The Spartans won the 400 free relay in a state time of 3:10.65. The relay consisted of Witty, John Velisaris, Ingalls, and Wenker.
Also, John Velisaris had a state time in the 100 free, finishing 10th, the Spartans 200 free relay finished eighth.
