North Kitsap remained unbeaten this week in the Olympic League 2A girls basketball standings.
The Vikings (4-0 OL, 7-1 overall) has a three-game lead despite injuries to key players at the start of the season. North beat Olympic 55-42 on Tuesday and defeated North Mason 70-50 Friday. They also played a nonleague game against South Kitsap, winning 46-37 on Saturday.
North saw the return of senior all-league guard Olivia Selembo, who is averaging 9.5 points in her two games. Raelee Moore leads the team with 15.5 ppg and 7.5 rebounds per game, and Noey Barreith is averaging 11.3 ppg. Barreith leads with 3.9 assists and 3.6 steals and has 7.3 rpg. Moore has 3.4 apg. Senior Katie Hughes is averaging 5.4 rebounds in her eight games while sophomore Grace Johnson contributed 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds.
Port Angeles and Kingston are tied for second place (2-1), followed by Sequim (1-1), Olympic (1-2), North Mason (1-3) and Bremerton (0-3).
In 1A, Chimacum holds the lead in the standings at 2-0 followed by Port Townsend (1-1) and Coupeville and Klahowya (both 0-1). The Eagles played Kingston tough in the first half of their game on Tuesday, but lost 44-33. Klahowya also lost to Charles Wright on Wednesday and showed some fatigue, 41-24. Klahowya hosts Chief Kitsap Academy at 5 p.m. Tuesday, and then are off until Jan. 3.
The league takes a break from regular season games this week as the Christmas holiday nears.
Some non-league games to keep an eye on include North Kitsap at Bainbridge at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Central Kitsap at Kingston at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Friday’s hoops version of the Battle of Bucklin Hill between Olympic and CK. That game is at 5:15 p.m. at CK.
How other teams fared:
- South Kitsap (1-4) picked up its first South Puget Sound League 4A win by beating Graham Kapowsin on the road, 51-43, Friday. The Wolves have two home games this week as they face Bellarmine Prep at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Peninsula at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Both are SPSL games.
- Central Kitsap is still looking for its first South Sound Conference 3A win of the season after losing to North Thurston 54-46 on Wednesday and Shelton, 69-42, Friday. The Cougars have non-league games Monday when they host North Mason at 7 p.m. and are at Kingston Wednesday at 7 p.m. Friday they host Olympic.
- Bainbridge is sitting in third place in the Metro League Mountain Division with a 2-3 record (4-4 overall). The Spartans are coming off a win against Lakeside, 36-31, on Wednesday and a loss to Cleveland Friday, 70-60. They will play a couple non-league games this week before jumping back into Metro play in January.
- Crosspoint Academy hasn’t played since Dec. 12, in a 54-17 Sea-Tac League 2B win over Pope John Paul II. The Warriors are off until Jan. 3 when they travel to Seattle Lutheran.
