The West Sound Warriors completed a successful Northwest Series road trip Sunday with a 7-3 win over the Southern Oregon Spartans in Medford, Ore.
The Warriors claimed a 2-1 Western States Hockey League series win thanks to a 3-2 victory on Saturday. Southern Oregon won the opener 6-5 Friday.
In the first game, the Warriors and Spartans were tied 4-4 after two periods.
Alec Johnson put West Sound up 5-4 with 17:13 remaining off assists from Connor Wherrett and Miroslav Sykora. The Spartans tied it just over a minute later, and Joel Holmberg scored the game-winner with 6:12 left.
Saturday’s contest saw West Sound take a 1-0 lead on a goal by Harri Kroll with assists by Erik Safstram and Mattias Wikstrom. Southern Oregon tied it in the second before the Warriors answered on a goal by Johnson for a 2-1 lead. Again Southern Oregon tied it 2-2 at the 9:09 mark of the second period.
With less than two minutes left, Samuel Pelech scored unassisted for the go-ahead goal.
West Sound goalkeeper Brian Eisele shut down the Spartans the rest of the way and finished with 30 saves.
In the decisive third game, the Spartans scored first, but the Warriors answered with three straight goals for a 3-1 lead after the first period. Johnson, Kroll, and Safstram all scored for West Sound.
Southern Oregon added a goal in the second and third, but the Warriors offensive output was too much. The Warriors saw goals from Pelech, two, Wikstrom, and Caleb Travis.
The Warriors announced on Friday they added two more players to the roster, Ty Traynor, and Dennis Berdkins. Traynor played 19 games for the Spartans as a defenseman garnering two goals, four assists, and six points.
West Sound will be at Seattle at 7 p.m. Friday and home again Saturday against Bellingham at 7:35 p.m.
