The Olympic College men’s and women’s cross country teams placed in the top 10 at the Northwest Athletic Conference championships last Saturday at St. Martin’s University.

It was a bittersweet day, however, as the team learned teammate James LaCoste was killed in a car accident a few days before.

The women finished seventh overall.

Leading the Rangers was Julia Claeys, a Central Kitsap grad, who finished in a time of 21:46. She was followed by Erin Herman-Kerwin in 21:54, Erika Hettick, 22:21, Hannah Patterson, 24:16, and Paola Martinez in 30:45.

The men placed eighth and were placed by freshman Isaiah Miller in 30:46. Other Olympic finishers were Drake Adams, 31:46, Nicolas Bourgeois, 32:50, Elijah Van DerMost, 34:58, and Darren Junt, 46:13.
