North Kitsap will have the opportunity to keep its trophy-hopes alive after surviving the first day of the Class 2A state volleyball tournament Friday.

The Vikings beat Tumwater 25-21, 26-24, 25-14 in a loser-out contest at St. Martin’s University. North will play at 8:30 a.m. Saturday against East Valley of Spokane in a loser-out match.

Earlier in the day, North Kitsap lost to Lynden 25-14, 25-21, 25-20, ending their hope of making it back to the state championship game for the first time since 2014. The best North can finish is seventh/eighth and it will need a win against East Valley to move into the trophy round.

Kingston dropped its opener to Burlington-Edison, the Northwest Conference champions, 25-15, 25-11, 25-12 and faced Selah in a loser-out match in the afternoon. The Buccaneers lost 25-22, 25-20, 25-16.

It was the first state tournament appearance for Kingston.
