Central Kitsap senior Tatiana Tubberville’s nickname baffles meet officials when it appears on the psych sheets and heat results. And hopefully, it also gives them a chuckle on days that can be long and stressful.
“Tatertot” isn’t exactly a well-used moniker like Jack in lieu of John or Smitty instead of Smith.
And it’s all thanks to an uncle who couldn’t pronounce Tatiana.
Tubberville will swim at the Class 3A state swimming and diving championships Friday in the 200-yard freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay. Tubberville is a four-year state qualifier and is eyeing a podium finish with her teammates.
“I want to be in the top eight for our 400 free relay,” she said. “It would be really great to be on the podium this year. We’ve been getting better and better and better and now it’s time to be up on top.”
The 3A meet begins at 9:45 a.m. with Friday’s prelims. Saturday finals are at 9:25 a.m.
