Crosspoint Academy’s volleyball team fully intends to enjoy every moment of the Class 2B state tournament this week.
It’s been a while since the Warriors were there.
Crosspoint’s last appearance at the tournament was 2009-10 in which they went 1-2, and it’s the school’s third trip to state overall.
The Warriors play at 11:45 a.m. Thursday against Life Christian at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
“At state I look forward to camaraderie, unity, fellowship and a strong finish, positivity, playing on Friday, Lord willing,” said Crosspoint coach Ellen Baxter.
The Warriors have been playing with more confidence the last couple of weeks — that includes coming out of the district tournament with the No. 2 seed.
Crosspoint will need to play inspired as it will be without their two outside hitters, who also play soccer. The girl’s team qualified for state and will be playing Saturday against Brewster in the quarterfinals.
Baxter said the coaching staff wants the players to know they can place at state and not settle for being a state-qualifying team.
“We would hate to be finished on Thursday,” she said.
No matter the outcome, Baxter said the program is on an upward swing the next few years.
“We have a young group of girls ready to fill some those seven varsity spots,” she said. “While it might take some building, they are ready for the challenge.”
