Volleyball: NK, Kingston snag top two seeds to district

POULSBO — The North Kitsap Vikings won the Olympic League tournament earning the league’s No. 1 seed to the West Central District 2A volleyball tournament next week.

The Vikings beat the Kingston Buccaneers in the title match 3-0 at North Kitsap Saturday. Game scores were 25-13, 25-18, 25-14.

The win also secured a first-round bye for NK at district Friday, Nov. 3. North will face the winner of the Franklin Pierce/Washington match at 7 p.m. The district tournament is at Franklin Pierce. There are five berths to the 2A state tournament at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey.

NK needs one win to advance to state.

Kingston improved its seeding by winning its first match of the day, 4-1 over Bremerton. Kingston will play at 3:30 p.m. Friday against Highline. A win and the Bucs move into a 7 p.m. game against Orting. A loss in either match means the Buccaneers will move into a loser-out match at noon Saturday.

Bremerton, which entered the league tournament as the second-place team from the regular season, earned the third seed after beating Sequim in the third/fourth match. The Knights will play at 5:15 p.m. against River Ridge. If Bremerton wins it will play Fife at 8:30 p.m. A loss puts the Knights into the losers bracket Saturday for a 10:30 a.m. loser-out game.
