CK girls swimming’s perfectly improbable season

It couldn’t have been a better meet or a better season for the Central Kitsap girls swimming team.

The Cougars finished with a perfect regular season, winning all of their South Sound Conference 3A meets including Tuesday’s 102-80 win over Peninsula at Olympic pool.

CK head coach Patrick McKenzie and assistant Whitney Dodd thought they had a loss against Gig Harbor as the only blemish on their record, but they learned Tuesday that wasn’t the case.

McKenzie and Dodd said a scoring error was discovered and will eventually reverse their loss to the Tides, giving them a perfect regular season. It’s believed to be the first undefeated season for the Cougar girls. A loss to Gig Harbor in 2003 prevented CK from going unbeaten in that season.

Up next is the West Central District meet followed by the Class 3A girls state swimming championships, Nov. 10-11 at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
