Recent Bainbridge Island residents Hayden and Michaela Rhoads didn’t grow up on a sailboat, circumnavigating the globe.

No, the young married couple are new to sailing and are happy exploring their new home in Kitsap.

The Rhoads’ sold a majority of their possessions and purchased a 33-foot, gaff-rigged Tahiti ketch in June to set sail on an adventure they hope never ends. The couple, from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, bought their classic wooden boat in Bellingham and, after some sea trials to test their newly-acquired nautical skills, sailed around the San Juan Islands this summer.

The couple, along with their dog, Alex, ventured south and found a new home at the Winslow Wharf marina on Bainbridge where they will spend the winter months. Hayden is the assistant manager at the marina while Michaela works at Blackbird Bakery.
